#MathematicalWorldModels or #PhysicalWorldViews – is that the Question?

I get the impression that numbers are perceived to be ‘technical’ – presumably because of their usefulness for calculations. That’s what women tend not to like.

Men, however, are desperately trying to build world views from physics, for that’s been the dominant science for describing largest cosmic phenomena and smallest nuclear events.

That’s why I loved reading Margaret Wertheim’s book Pythagoras’ Trousers about God, Physics and the Gender Wars.

At Pythagoras‘ times [580-500 BC], geometry and astronomy were the reigning sciences. In his search for knowledge, he travelled to the Orient and came back wearing trousers in contrast to Greek costumes.

Pythagoras taught ‘Everything is Number’ in his spiritual community where silence and fasting were the rule. Is true knowledge not possible without self-knowledge?

When I came to CERN in Geneva, I thought those physicists understood God, for they understand the smallest and the largest. I was 22 then and have learned since that astrophysicists can NOT talk to nuclear physicists! For physical phenomena are defined such that they are NOT scalable.

Only geometric structures are scalable. Their dimensionality is clear and ‘in your face’. Algebra ‘waters’ dimensionality down. Wipes it away by using letters to generalise. Not just dimensionality.

Algebraic equations are used to describe physical phenomena like energy and matter and physical measures like the speed of light. After all, that’s what Einstein’s e = mc2 does.

A friend showed my site to her son who thought that The Thunderbolts Project might be interested: they are advocating The Electric Universe as a ‘common denominator’ between large and small – on a physical level.

What I am demonstrating with my ‘number magic’ are principles that are fundamental to both mathematics and physics:

  1. the unique characteristic of numbers is that they are
    • stand-alone symbols
      • of great spiritual and musical significance
    • counters
      • of concrete objects
      • of abstract variables
    • ‘players’ in arithmetical calculations
      • results of arithmetical calculations
    • counts
      • of units of time
      • of units of ‘dimensional spaces’: lines, areas and volumes
      • of units of biological, chemical or physical measurements
      • of positions in sequences also known as ranking
  2. the fact that #PrimeNumbers have been an eternal challenge for humanity is due to the human invention of arithmetical operations:
    • additions create sums and multiplications create products
    • in my humble opinion God does not multiply: Nature just adds or takes away and it moves
    • movement is happening no matter whether we count units of time or not
    • shapes of movement are thus for physics what shapes as containers are for my patterns of numbers: contexts for human interpretation.

Since writing these pages, I have discovered that symmetry is the overarching concept that bridges theories with realities.

I keep having to change and renumber and switch brain between #AmazingPatterns in ‘beautiful pictures’ and #VisualClarity in ‘meaningful spreadsheets’.

As ‘icons’, pictures are #DigitalAssets which means Non-Fungible Tokens [NFTs] – the only way of copyrighting digital art and swimming against the mainstream of institutionalised thinking. Patenting is ‘out of date’.

But I have to press LAUNCH some time. I can’t expect anybody to read the whole lot once it’s all done, even though I shall of course turn it into an e-book. But first let’s enjoy the beauty of blog posts!

This site is designed to teach everybody who is hungry for knowledge to find it for themselves: I give you spreadsheets with which you can experiment. I try to explain but not pontificate. I try to be clear and concise even though my world is full of new concepts. I give you overviews and titles of what to expect, hoping you ‘get it’.

I try to be sequential, yet make lots of cross-connections. I try to group items into concepts. And I try to make lots of distinctions – for the sake of ‘categories of understanding’ in the spirit of Kant and Aristotle. For I am half German which makes me ‘naturally philosophical’, half Slavic which makes ‘think deeply’ and a ‘Digital Veteran’ which makes me #StrictlyLogical.

But, above all, I feed your mind with words and your eyes with #AmazingPatterns – for you to develop meaning and understanding.

The most important distinction is presumably:

  • digital versus analogue [physics]
  • digital versus numerical [maths].

To ensure that maths models physical realities, “Digital Numbers” needed to be invented to cater for scales, magnitudes and dimensionality in an abstract way. Now we can proudly say with Pythagoras: Everything is Number, as “Digital Numbers” are

  • the ‘general model of abstraction
  • or the ‘abstract model of generalisation

of what physicists call ‘grand unified theory‘.

I shall release collections of patterns first as NFTs and then as spreadsheets. In that process I shall also make the related private pages public. For the time being, I have 65 pages up my sleeve and some 200 patterns.

The culmination of physicists as gods is of course the god’s particle and the high energy accelerators at the European Centre for Nuclear Research [CERN] in Geneva, where I had my first job as systems analyst. Finding mistakes in the programs that physicists had written was fun, until I got bored.

But then my driver feel asleep on our way to Lawrence Radiation Lab in Berkeley and a life of ‘pain management’ began which also made me go to London.

our daily challenges…

Last time I checked less than 30% of the world’s researchers were women.

In Europe Women represent about half of workers in science and technology.

In the UK 24%. Good thing I left!? After all, I’ve tried for years and years to get my thinking turned into software. One professor of computing, maths and physics said that my prototype Visual Data Intelligence was the most important work since relativity theory. When his colleague asked why? he answered “because it’s about understanding Number.”

But he didn’t help further – although his company was supposed to finance startups. Have you heard of the NIH syndrome? [“Not Invented Here” jealousy – especially in men when women seem to ‘know better’…]
